Spruce up that coffee table, kitchen counter-top, or whatever surface you’re using for work these days with the Crochet Sunflower Coasters. They’re very beginner friendly, starting with a magic circle, then double and single crocheting in the round.

These floral coasters are definitely my favorite handmade project right now. I can’t get enough of them! I made a set of six for my home, using Lion Brand’s 24/7 Cotton Yarn in correlating sunflower-y colors, but I’m thinking I may need more in brighter hues for summertime.

They work up quickly and make great gifts for Mother’s Day, Nurses Day (did you know you can adopt a nurse?) or those ‘just thinking of you’ days.

I re-purposed my white sewing table as an office desk for workdays and use these coasters to avoid damaging it from ugly coffee rings and water glass sweat.

Even my husband’s using them!

Design & Inspiration

Practicality is what we need these days since we’re working from home while simultaneously homeschooling our kids, rationing our toilet paper, and staying indoors to flatten the curve. Oh! and trying to avoid going stir crazy. With all that in mind–not to mention the anxiety of COVID-19 still lurking about–I wanted to make something that would remind me to stay positive.

Sunflowers instantly came to mind! They’re my favorite flower and always make me smile when I see their bright yellow petals and wide green leaves. They remind me of my childhood and summer–happy times.

There’s a quote I like to read when I need a pick-me-up: “I want to be a sunflower; so that even on the darkest days I will stand tall and find the sunlight”.

Yarn Choice

I love using Lion Brand’s 24/7 Cotton Yarn for my lighter weight projects. The airy feel and eye-catching color variety are perfect qualities for home decor, fashion garments, kitchen and bath accessories, and baby items. The natural cotton fibers are mercerized 100%, so the yarn is soft on the hands, but strong enough for everyday use.

Cheers to positive vibes and brighter days!
